ANNUAL MEETING OF THE XEWMAB
KET COWLING CLUB
The annual meeting of the above club took place last evening in the club-room en the green, about 30 being present. Mr C. G. Laurie, president,'occupied the chair, and after a few appropriate remarks called upon the secretary to read the report and balance sheet.
The statement of accounts showed the club to be In a sound financial position, and notwithstanding the fact that the purchasing of the hereditaments and iease of the Parnell green (which is now part and parcel of Newmarket Bowling Club) has now been completed, the club have the substantia; balance of £G odd. The report also de;.Jt fully with the past performatives of the club, and reference was made to the prominence gained at the championship meeting held iv Wanganui in January last, and also to the fact of the club est_-li«Cl_K a record in winning the pennant tlag.shieki and champion bowls of the Auckland Bowling Association; at the same time the club's repiesentative was second in the champion of champions singles match. Arrangement.l, are belDg made to open the green early iv November, and it. is intended to have tho green open for play every day at. 2 p.m after such opening, and all day on ,-nb:ic holidays.
Tlie electiou of officers resulted as follows:—President, C. G. Lauri (re-elected for the third time); vlec-presldcuts, .1. Laxon, A. Wright, C. Spooucr; committee, Messrs Cottel, Kilgour, Holnies, Bevans, Huselden, Brookes, and Dr. Laisbley; secretary and treasurer, Mr J. Cahill (re-elected); delegates to Association, Messrs Haselden, Bevans, and Dr. Baishley; match committee, Messrs G. Laurie, Brookes, and Kilgour; green superintendent, Mr J. Kilgour. The prizes won during the season were then presented to the winners:—President., prize, Mr G. Laurie; club championship, Mr 11. Brookes; vice-president's prize, Mr Frost; first year's players, presented by Mr J. B. Gllfillan, won by Mr Clias. Spooner, jun. Five gold medals and a silver-mounted walking-stick are trophies already promised for competition this season. ' As a mark of esteem Mr Geo. Main was appointed an honorary life member; and Mr W. B. Tait, one of the oldest and most enthusiastic bowlers of Auckland, but now resident in Wellington, was elected an honorary life member, the said gentleman holding a similar pos. tlou in the late Parnell Bowling Club. A general discussion took place re ways and means for further improving the green purchased from the Parnell Club, and it Is intended to add to the pavilion, lay on gas, and make sundry other improvements. The usual votes of thanks terminated a most enthusiastic and successful meeting.
