REID MINISTRY DEFEATED

SYDNEY, this day,

The Government have been defeated upon a motion of No-confidence moved by Air W. H. Lyne, who recently succeeded Air Barton as Leader of the Opposition. Mr Lyne rested his motion of no confidence upon charges of improper dealing with individuals and improper dealing Avith the public accounts. In the former category was the case of Air Neild, a member of Parliament, who Avas paid £350 for a report on old age pension.

Upon this motion an amendment was proposed that the Neild matter should be dealt with free from party feel i ng. A prolonged debate ended early this morning- when the House Avent to a division, with the result stated.

The amendment having been negatived by 78 to 40, a further amendment condemning the action of the Government over the Neild transaction Avas carried by a similar division.

Ah- Yyne's motion Avas then put, A'iz., (1) That the present Government does not possess the confidence of this House; (2) That the foregoing resolution be conveyed by address to his Excellency the Governor." This Avas carried by 75 to 41.
