OHINEMURI COUNCIL.

PAEROA, Friday,
The monthly meeting of the Ohinemuri County Council Avas held to-day in the Council Chambers at Paeroa. Present: Councillors Cock (chairman), Boler, Moore, McGrucr, Shaw, MeClelland, and McAndrew.
The following tenders Avere accepted:—Widening Earl of Glasgow track, Karangahake, No. 1 contract, John Cochrane, £270 8/; widening Earl of Glasgow track. No. 2 contract, N. Stewart, £119; cutting titree between Brukleys bridge, Waitoa district, W. G. Butt, 9d per chain; extension of Karangahake Avater supply. ,1. M. Davis, £30; building a bridge and approaches over the Union Creek, Golden Cross, Waitekauri. E. H. Harvey, £123 19/; forming and grading portions of Gilmour, Union, and Rae Streets, Waihi, McGarth and Slevin, £106.
The engineer estimated the cost of extension of the Avater supply to Mackaytown at £574. Cr. Stackpole moved that the Council write to the Minister of Mines and ask for a special grant of £000 for extension of water supply at Karangahake and MackaytoAvn. This was seconded by Cr. McGruer and carried.
Extension of water supply to south side of Karangahake township (estimated cost £70). It was proposed by Cr. Stackpole, seconded by Cr. McGruer, and carried, that tenders be called for the Avork.
The Council decided to purchnse Style's punt at Netherton for £30.
The engineer's report stated that great danger to the bridges in Waitekauri and along the Ohinlmuri River existed in the common practice of bushmen in Waitekauri throwing logs and branches of kauri trees into the streams, the result being- that Avhen a fresh come these logs and branches are SAvept doAvn the creeks and into the Ohinemuri River, with the risk of smashing the county bridges. The Council decided that the chairman should consult the county engineer as to Avhat steps could be taken to stop the practice.
The chairman reported that the purchase of the abattoir site had been completed at £80.
The action of the chairman and Councillor Shaw in connection with the Waihi Beach Road Avas confirmed.
A Napier telegram states that, contrary to the opinion of leading local solicitors, Mr Martin, solicitor of the Municipal Association, has advised the Mayor that only ratepayers are qualified as councillors under the Municipal Franchise Extension Act,
