THE DECENT DOG SHOW.

(To the Editor.)

Sir,—Kindly allow us once again, and finally, to say a few words to your anonymous contributor "Canis." We are deeply indebted and obliged to him for lhe very candid and professional "own opinion" given by him in your issue of Ist inst., but realising the fact that it conies from a writer who does not consider himself sufficiently "important" to divulge his personality, and that it differs so materially from the public declaration of an acknowledged capable judge of dogs, we are not disposed to set much value upon it. We regret that after his "many years of experience" he fiuds himself obliged to knuckle under to four two-year-old "novices," but, to parody the words of Richard 111. at the battle of Bosworth Field, let him cry loud, "A dog, a dog! my kingdom for a dog!" and possibly next year his tail will be more erect and his notes less discordant. Picton Great Scot, Picton Frolic, their progeny, and wellwishers will be glad, too, of a rest; also to see Auckland boasting of better classes of dogs all roiiind, from the dignified St. Bernard to the impudent but more useful terrier. —We are, etc.,

R. It. de CASTRO, Auckland. G. E. READ, Newton. CHAS. P. GREEN, Upper Queen-

street. JAMES BUCHANAN, Hamilton Road.
