LATE PARLIAMENTARY.

<3 (By Telegraph.—Parliamentary Reporter.) WELLINGTON, this day. THE FACTORIES BILL. The Labour Bills Committee of the Legislative Council made several amendments in the Factories Bill. Originally the measure sought to re- j peal the thh-d and fourth paragraphs of Section iH of the Act of 1894, and provide 'that no person should employ any girl, woman, or boy in a factory more than eight hours per day, or j mure than forty-five hours per w-eek,! nor at any time between 6 o'clock in the evening and S in the morning. The amendment made by the Council' Committee to this makes it apply solely to females. Under the principal Act women and girls could be employed for forty-eight hours each week, therefore should the Bill pass in the form recommended by the committee, they will receive a concession of three hours. This is not to affect any industrial agreement or award made prior to the passing of the Act. A new clause was added to the measure by the committee declaring that the accupier of any factory or workroom shall be liable to a, penalty of £10 where there is committed any breach of principal net for which no specific penalty is imposed.
