Wind: Moderate to strong from between north and west and south-west at all places north of Lytrelton and Hokitika. gale from thence southward,' changing to sale from between north-east and north and west at all places south of Napier and New Plymouth after 20 hours. Barometer: Kise everywhere, .but failing again after from 12 to 20 hours. Sea: Heavy on all Western Coast ana Castlepoint. moderate elsewhere. Tides- High on all Western Const and on East Coast south of Napier, moderate at all other placca. Synopsis of the last 24 hours: There was decreasing pressure everywhere until about midnight, and since then pressure has increased a little in southern districts. Ihe weather has been generaly fine, with strong westerly winds south of Napier and New Plymouth, but rain has fallen at Taupo aud Cambridge, also in Otagp. Low pressure from the west has passed to the east of the meridian of South Cape. Low pressure of more than usual intensity will probably pass, from the westward on the Bth lust. _____
