AUCKLAND GAS COMPANY.
Head Office v. Works Office.—A football match Auckland Gas Company's Head Office v. Works Office was played at Ellerslie on Saturday, and after a very good exposition of football on both sides resulted in a win for the Works Office by 8 points to nil. A. Jane and J. Heath scored tries, the former being converted by F. Williams. After the match both teams adjourned to the,Ellerslie Hotel where Host Piokerill served up a sumptuous repast in his well known style. After clearing- the diningroom (which was most suitable for a convivial evening) the President of the Works Club (Mr C. Suggate. who ably assisted in carrying the evening's programme through) proposed the toast of the Queen, which was duly honoured in a very hearty manenr." Other toasts honoured were "The President," by Mr W. Gunn; "The Losing Team," by Mr W. K. Woodall; "Our Host," by Mr J. Evans, all of which were duly responded to and well recognised. Musical items ■were contributed by Messrs W. Gun*, J. Heath, J. Gribble, R. Bush, N. McLean, W. Donaldson and H. Flint, the proceedings being closed by the singing of the National Anthem.
