THE GEORGIA MAGNET.
(To the Editor.)
Sir,—ln reply to Mr Cleaves challenge published iv Saturday's "Star," I merely wish to say that I have performed the. feats which have caused so much controversy during the past week and I am fully prepared to do so again, privately, before any or all of the gentlemen who have acted on the committees at Miss Abbott's performances.
Mr Cleave need not incur the expense of hiring the Opera House, as I only desire to demonstrate that the performance is accomplished by a system of leverage, and not by any occult or other means.
If Mr Cleave is prepared to accept this offer I will first of all perform the feats after the manner adopted by Miss Abbott; then I will show how, by altering the leverage in each feat, they all become failures; and thirdly, I will show hovv.it is possible for the weakest member of my audience to do any or all of these simple feats as successfully as the "Georgia Magnet," If the Committee be satisfied that the feats have been as satisfactorily performed as Miss Abbott's, I make it a condition that Mr Cleave shall publicly acknowledge his error. I rlo not think it is at all necessary to make any further reference to Mr Cleaves offer to make a wager with me.—l am, etc., GEO .De CLIVE-LOWE.
