A PERILOUS VOYAGE.
THE MYSTERIOUS DISTRESS
SIGNALS
SYDNEY, August. 27,
The steamer Julia Percy has reached Newcastle after a perilous passage from Brisbane.
During the gales the fires were repeatedly extinguished, and the water in the stoke-hole prevented access to the bunkers.
All hands were kept bailing out continuously, and the deck fittings and saloon furniture were used as fuel.
It has been ascertained that the mysterious distress signals off Newcastle were fired by. the Julia Percy.
