STORMY WEATHER.
THE UPOLU SAFE. REPORTED FROM GAPE MARIA. The surmise that-the s.s. Upolu, now four days overdue . here, from Westport, had taken shelter behind Cape Maria proves to be correct. Communication with the Cape was restored this morning, and a telegram was received stating that the Upolu had anchored under the lee of the Cape on Thursday morning, and had remained there \mtil yesterday morning, when she resumed her voyage, passing the Cape at 9.50 a.m. The weather on the coast is still rough, it being reported at Russell that the wind was strong from the eastward, while the - sea was very heavy, but was decreasing. The Upolu may be. expected to arrive at any moment. She leaves for Fiji on Monday evening. . The s.s. Papanui was due early this morning, but has not yet arrived, being probably delayed by the easterly gale. The Indraghiri, which left here ; early the day before yesterday, did j not arrive at Gisborne until this morning, after a very rough trip. Russell, this day.-The Upolu passed Russell at 2.30 p.m. . ,''.-..■■'
