RETURN OF AN EXPEDITION.
CHRISTIANA, August IS.
The Arctic expedition which left Norway last year in charge of Herren Frithjof and Wellman, has returned to Tromsoe without finding any trace of Andree, the Polar balloonist.
[It is now over five years since Herr Andree, the daring- balloonist, ascended from Dane's Island, on the outskirts of the Arctic Circle, in his specially made balloon, -with the intention of drifting right across the North Pole. He was prepared for an absence of two years, and was accompanied by Dr. Strindberg and Herr Fraenkel. The ascent was made on July 11, 1897, and since then no reliable information as to this adventurous expedition has been received. Various reports have appeared, but all lacked confirmation. The possibilities are that nothing more will ever be heard of Andree or his balloon.]
