TREATMENT OF DRUNKARDS.
MELBOURNE, August 18.
The report of the Commission on the treatment of habitual drunkards recommends the establishment of a retreat at -French Island, the persons committed there to be compelled to •work, and when released to be given an allowance proportionate to the value of the work done; that criminal drunkards be kept in country ff aols separate from other prisoners; that the law be made more stringent against supplying drunken persons and children with liquor; that a hosPttal ward be set aside for the treatSent of inebriates and other persons found in the streets insensible.
