THE CABLE QUESTION.
SYDNEY, this day
The Eastern Extension Cable Co. has applied to be allowed to open its own office in Melbourne. The Post-master-General says such a concession
is impossible. The Government is about to engage in the cable business itself, and it would be a breach of agreement with contracting colonies re the Pacific cable.
Mr Reid's attention has been called by Mr Seddon to dissatisfaction with Tegard to the constitution of the Pacific Cable Board of Control. He considers Mr Seddon's alarm is ungrounded, and will probably cable him on the matter.
