FURNITURE TRADE DISPUTE.
■—: ♦ SUBMITTED TO THE CONCILIATION BOARD. The Auckland United Furniture Trades Union have cited 57 employer; to appear before the Conciliation Board in connection with a dispute as to the rates of pay, etc. Hearing is fixed for the 21st hist., at 10 a.m. The statement of the Union is a.s follows: Clause 1: Hours —That 44 hours constitute a week's work. Half-holi-day to be on Saturday. Clause 2: Wages —That the minimum wage for cabinetmakers, ehairmakers, upholsterers, French polishers, carvers, and turners, be 9/0 j>er day; and for mattress-makers (except wire-woven workers), 8/(3 per day. Clause 3. Overtime—Time and aquarter up to midnight .double time after midnight, and on Sundays, Good Friday, and Christmas Day. Clans 4: Holidays to be Easter Mon- ! day, Queen's Birthday, Prince of | Wales' Birthday, Boxing Day, New j Year's Day, and Anniversary Day. '; Men working those days to be paid : time nnd a quarter for the first four hours; after that time and a half up till midnight, and after midnight double time. Clause 5: Apprentices and Journeymen—Only two classes of labour shall be recognised, apprentices and journeymen. Clause G: Apprentices' wages to be 5/ per week, with a rise of 2/~ etffch subsequent six months. Five years to be the term of apprenticeship. Apprentices to be indentured on three months' probation. The proi portion of apprentices to be one to every three men, or fraction of three, who must have been employed equni to two-thirds full time during the prevou.s six months. Clause 7: Union men—That preference be given to the members of the Auckland United (Furniture, Trades' Union. Clause 8: —Piecework—That no piecework be allowed. Clause 9: Qualification —Men who1 are considered unable to earn the minimum wage .shall be paid such lesser sum as shall be decideu upon by a committee consisting of three per- f sons nominated by the employers and , three persons nominated by the I Union, and if these cannot agree, I then by the chairman (for the time being) of the Board of Conciliation. Clause 10: Term of this industrial agreement to extend over a period of. three years. I Clause 11: For each and every infringement of the- above award a penalty not exceeding £10 shall be inflicted.
