SHIPPING COLLISION.
STEAMER EXCELSIOR SUNK.
MANY PERSONS INJURED.
(By Telegraph —Press Association.) (Copyright.) MELBOURNE, July 11. A serious collision has taken place in the bay between the steamers | Edina, a vessel of 3SO tons, owned by I Barclay, Curie and Co., and Excelsior, 340 tons, owned by the Huddart Parker Co. The former was struck amidships. The Excelsior sank in 15 minutes. I Both were crowded with passengers, ■ and it is believed all are safe, though i 25 were injured by shock. Dr. Wilson, headmaster of the Brighton Presbyterian Ladies' College, was seriously injured by being thrown down a companionway. The Edina is leaking slightly. MELBOURNE, this day. The Edina collision took place in a dense fog. Wilson's arm was broken and his hand crushed. Miss Haley got a nasty wound on the thigh. Mrs Pride sustained a scalp wound. Samuel Fowler, look-out man, was injured on the ribs. The above are the. most serious cases. A number of others received severe shocks.
