MR BRIGHAM'S REPORT.

•Mr J. M; Brigham, Secretary, to the ■ Harbour Board,. submitted .at the ' meeting of that body this afternoon a comprehensive report giving details , of all that had been done by him while in London in connection with securing -.. a subsidy from the British Admiralty for the .equipment of the Calliope Dock. In conclusion, Mr Brighata. briefly, summarised the result of his negotiations as follows:— ''Increasing the total amount for machinery, buildings, etc., for the full equipment o£ Calliope Dock from former sugges- , tions and estimates to .£59,350; (A) original" suggestions for "machinery and buildings, lists A and B, forwarded by Admiralty under date of 28th June, IS9B, amounted approximately, to about £15,000; (B) the total estimated cost of machinery, buildings, "', etc., required for the equipment of the dock, as prepared *in Auckland, amounted to £32,250. Increase upon (A) £44,350, (B) £27,100. Securing 4 per cent, per annum upon £59,350 for thirty years instead of 2£ per cent,, as suggested by the Treasury. Arranging that the Admiralty pay the sum of £32,350 for machinery, works, etc., and also sinking fund' of £ 576 per annum to extinguish-the sum of £32,350 in 30 years. The inclusion of £1000 in total amount for Secretary's expenses, etc. Securing for the benefit of the Board the sum of £2,500 duty on machinery remitted by the N.Z. Government.' The completion of the agreement between the Admiralty and the Board, in which all details in relation to the use of the dock, the providing of machinery, etc., are ij definitely settled. j When the Harbour Board met this ' afternoon the Chairman (Mr W.. J. |; Napier, formally welcomed Mr Brigham back again. He said, he felt quite sure the information Mr Brigham had gained would be of great benefit to the Board in the future.
