A CODL SPELL.
The weather to-day was exceptionally cold, the brisk "southerly breeze blowing increasing the chilliness of the atmosphere. In the shade and out of the wind at noon to-day the thermometer registered 50 degrees Fahrenheit, a very low temperature for Auckland. Cold weather, judging from telegrams, prevails throughout the colony. \

WELLINGTON, this day. The cold snap reported from the South reached here last night, and heavy showers of rain and hail fell, with a very cold southerly Avind. The rainfall this month already totals 2.15 inches. Since the end of April, with exception of one week, the streets have never been dry for more than a day or so. CHRISTCHURCH, this day. Stormy and bitterly cold weather still continues, and shows no sign of abating, although ' the barometer is rising steadily. NAPIER, this day. The weather is bitterly cold. There is the heaviest fall of snow on Havelock Ranges known for many years.
