HOSPITAL AND CHARITABLE AID BOARD.
The following business was transacted on Monday afternoon.
Costley Wards.—The Medical Superintendent of the Hospital reported the Costley wards were inhabited on July Ist by children. He should be glad to receive instructions as to the utilisation of other wards.
Nurses. —The resignation of Nurse E. M. Alexander was accepted. The Lady Superintendent reported the stall' at date was 35 nurses, 1 probationer on trial, and 7 maids.
Nursing Examinations.—l)T9. Baldwin and Fabst reported the results of nursing examinations. Nurses Coats, GifEney, Street, and Gill had passed their third year and final examination, and were recommended for certificates. Assistant Nurses Dalziel, Foote, Wilson, Stratford, and Gifford had passed their second year examinations. Probationers Mason and Williams had passed their first year examinations. Costley Home. —The Master reported 138 males and 52 females in the Home. Drapery Tenders. — Tenders fox drapery, etc., for the Hospital were received from the D.S.C. and McMaster and Shalders. It was agreed to call for • fresh tenders from warehouses and by advertisement. Contributions. —The Board agreed to apply to the Treasury for all outstanding contributions due by local bodies for charitable aid rate. Finance. —The Secretary reported a credit balance of. £916 15/1. Charitable Aid Committee.—The committee reported the following admissions to the Costley Home: Chas. Wright, Jas. Lyons, Edward Warner. The Baker-street property realised £92 at auction. The report was adopted. Thanks. —Letters were read from Drs. Parkes and Bedford thanking the Board for re-electing them to the hon. visiting staff of the Hospital. Costley Home.—The Board agreed to employ a domestic to assist the matron in her duties. Filters. —On the motion of the Rev. W. Finlay Wilson the Board decided to purchase three additional Chamberland Pasteur filters for the Hospital. Salary.—Mr Friend moved a resolution to the effect that the salary of the head cook at the Hospital be increased. —After discussion Mr Friend agreed to withdraw the motion in favour of the granting of a bonus equal to the increase of salary proposed.
