! (Before Mr H. W. Brabant, S.M.) Drunkenness.—Annie Eobertson was charged with being drunk in Wyndham street last night. This was her seventh offence in six months. She was sentenced to 14 days in MountEden with, hard labour.
Alleged Theft of a Watch.—A boy named Thomas Cecil Prince, 14 years of age, was charged with stealing on 16th June, at Newmai-ket, a watch, value £8, the property of John Eowes. Sub-Inspt. Wilson asked for a remand until Saturday, and that bail be allowed. The boy's father was a platelayer on the railway line, and he had not been able to communicate with Tiim or the prosecutor, who lives at Mangere. The watch had been recovered. —His Worship granted a remand until Saturday and allowed bail.
An Illegitimate Child.—Chas. Meldrum, a young- man, was charged with failing to provide for his illegitimate child, four months old, of which Sarah Johnston is the mother.—Sub-Inspec-tor Wilson said defendant was arrested at Napier after considerable trouble.—Defendant admitted being the father of the child, and consented ,to an order being made against him.— His Worship made an order that defendant pay 7/6 per week towards the support of the child, find a surety of £25 for fulfilment of the order, and Jie was further ordered to pay £ 3 confinement expenses.—Sub - Inspector Wilson asked for £4 15/ expenses for bringing defendant from Napier, which was granted. The suim of £8 odd was found on defendant when he was arrested.
Alleged Wife Desertion. —John Martin was charged that on Bth May, 1899, he deserted his wife and four children. Defendant pleaded not guilty.—SubInspector Wilson said the defendant was arrested at Hakarau, and he was brought by steamer last night.—Mrs Martin stated that her husband spent ■his earnings in drink. She had to get him put out of her house, for he disturbed people to whom she let rooms. Her husband came home at all hours fit night whistling and reciting, and disturbing the people in the house. — Defendant was convicted and ordered to pay £ 5 and costs, 375, or in default one month's imprisonment. Sub-In-spector Wilson asked that one week be given to Martin to find the money, and Mr Brabant consented.
Maintenance Cases.—Thomas Burns was charged with failing to comply with an order of the court to pay his wife £2 per month. Defendant did not appear. Mr Jackson Palmer,

Worship sentenced defendant to one month's imprisonment with hartt labour, warrant to be suspended for fourteen days hi order that lie may pay the arrears. John Croniu wus enarged with failing" to .support ni.s wife. Defendant was present, but complainant, whom Mt J. A. Beale represented, did not appear, .Mr Maliony appeared for Mr Cronin, The hearing was adjourned to ihe. ~'Bth June. Wm. Lysaght, who tlid not appear, was ordered to pay 2s per week towards the support ot his father, The father gave evidence in support, George Onion was ordered to pay £3.4a 8d per month, commencing from the Ist July, towards the support of his wiLe and children, £20 arrears owing by defendant to remain in abeyance. Philip Brady was charged with failing to support his wife and children. Mr Jackson Palmer appeared for complainant and Mr Pilkington for defendant. Mr Palmer said the parlies had agreed that a separation order be granted between them, the defendant to take charge of the children, the complainant to have free access to the children once a week, and defendant to allow complainant maintenance of 5s pe.v week. Mr Palmer said he did not ask for security or costs. Mr Brabant made the order to be drawn up by '.he solicitors themselves.
