OLD AGE PENSIONS.
At the sitting of the Old Age Pension Court on Saturday, Mr Brabant, S.M., dealt with a number of suspended claims. Some were withdrawn, some adjourned, and others struck out, the only awards made being to a deserving elderly kuly in Auckland and a Maori resident ot Orakei. The Deputy Registrar, Mr John King, then applied for un adjournment of the Court until the 15th of July in order to arraug-o details for the Costley Home cases, and also on uceouut of the pressure of electoral work. Mr King said he was carrying out the instructions of tue Registrar in brinying under the notice of the .Bench the great assistance rendered iv carrying out the working of the Act. Mr King said personally he desired specially to mention the assistance given by Mr Watson, chief clerk in the valuation office; Mr Holloway, deputy registrar of deeds; Messrs Lyons and Culpan of the office of the registrar of births, deaths, and marriages; Inspector Cullen and the police officers; Mr John Strathern, Charitable Aid Board; Mr Burgess, clerk of the court; the Auckland members of both Houses; as well as many well known old settlers and citizens. His own chief (Mr Mason) had granted every reasonable request, the various papers, books and documents prepared being as complete a.s they were simple. His own assistant (Mr Hollis) had performed his difficult duties in a most tactful manner, and added Mr King: 'I am pleased to state I hold in my hand a telegram from the Premier notifying that a special allowance will be authorised for Mr Hollis.' As to his own work Mr King said he had from the first endeavoured to discharge his duties with loyalty to the Court, and impartiality to every claimant Mr King said he also desired to state that His Worship had manifested the jrreatest possible patience in dealing with the claims, and j*eM ™not one of the decisions which His War ship gave which, if referred to himself fs deputy registrar, he would in any way have varied. His Worship in reply complimented the officials for the manner in winch the cases were submitted to him, and then adjourned the Court to the loth of July.
