AT AN 'AT-HOME.'
SCENE 1.-IN THE DRAWING-ROOM.
The hostess (after tea): Now, if you care to come into the next room you will find one or two little surprises. As you know, I always try to introduce a note of originality by way of making my aftprnoons a little less dull than most affsfirs of the kind. The Thought Reader .last month was so popular that I made up my mind to provide the same sort of entertainment for your amusement this afternoon, but on second thoughts I determined to vary it a little. .
The Guests (in polite chorus): Oh, how delightful! The occult is always so interesting! '-.■•'
The Hostess: In the inner drawing-room you will find a palmist, who—to judge by her own accounts—is rather good. And in the conservatory there is a rather alarming-looking' person who styles herself a clairvoyante. I got them through the Stores. As to their ability, you must judge for yourselves.
The Guests (among, themselves): But where does her boasted note of originality come in? I rather fancy I have heard of these people before, more than once or twice. (To the hostess): How clever of you! Such a new, idea! And mysticism In any form is always so fascinating!
