GOLDEN BELT.
A ton of ore taken from the Golden Belt mine at Tairua is being treated at the Thames School of Mines. HAURAKI NO. 2. The manager reports that as thero was no sign of the two-inch leader making he stopped working at that point and started driving on the rise, where, is a tine-looking reef from 4 to 6 inches in width. The country is improving as ihe rise goes up and looks more, favourable for gold. The appearance in the rise is such that the reef is likely to make gold any breaking down. IMPERIAL". The. country at the low level is somewhat tighter and more difficult to work. The reef formation is composed of very strong bands of quartz and flinty stone. In the United section it is expected about 60 feet will require to be driven before the new reef is met with. When the reef is intersected the manager intends to drive on this lode, which has been traced on the property for a distance of 600 feet. MARATOTO BATTERY COMPANY. A meeting of shareholders in the Maratoto Battery Company was hold this afternoon in Mr D. G. Macdonnell's office, at which Mr H. A. Gordon presided. He reported that the machinery for the ISstamper battery for the Maratoto Company had been carted to within 60 chains of the site, and the necessary timber cut, and in a few clays the erection of the battery would be proceeded with. All the machinery had been purchased at most satisfactory prices, the work carried on with all possible expedition. In accordance with the contract 20,000 Maratoto shares had been allotted to the battery company. The report was adopted/ and the retiring Board of Directors elected.
