SWIMMING.

Matters appear to be in train for an amicable settlement of differences between the two Amateur Swimming Associations in this colony, and (heir ! amalgamation into . one governingl j | body. The Southern Association | have written to the Northern body i thanking them for the courtesy and i hopsitality extended to their lion, sec- ] retary during his recent visit to Auckland. They have likewise appointed ! a 'sub-committee to meet a sub-com-mittee of the Northern Association to discuss the basis of amalgamation, the sub-committee to have full power to act on behalf of the Association. Moreover, the desirability of such amalgamation is given expression to in the following resolution, adopted unanimously by the Southern Associa-' tion:—'Whereas it is desirable in the interests of swimming that there should be one governing body throughout Xew Zealand, it is resolved that this Association heartily approves of, an amalgamation being brought about between the registered Association which has its headquarters at Auckland and the Association which has its headquarters at Christchurch, and that the Executive of this Association is authorised to do all in its power to accomplish an amicable adjustment.' It is to be hoped the sub-committees will be able to settle satisfactorily the terms of agreement, and so put an end to the unhappy schism which has existed during the past two years. The following are the amateur records as passed by the English Swimming Association to date:— Distance. Time. Made by m. s. 100 yds 1. 0 1-5 J. H.
