A BRUTAL ASSAULT.

The Gilgunnia correspondent of the Sydney 'Evening. News' sent his paper last Monday a sensational account of brutal and shocking assault perpetrated' by a Chinaman named Ah Plihg-oh- a countryman named Ah Gltin, at Wirehiliba station, some five hundred miles inland, near Cobar. On Wednesday-after-noon, April sth,..the storekeeper of Wirehiliba station,' Mr, Hod'kinson, brought into Gilgunnia the victim of the assault. The report made to the police states that two' Chinamen who were cutting scrub for sheep at Boggy Tank, off the Cpbajj Road, had a row "through some cause unknown, when one of them, Ah Pling ;by name,, attacked hiis mate, Ah Clun, from behind with an axe, and gave him two blows across the head with it. The victim fell down and became nearly unconscious, but his assailant still belaboured him with a stick for some time.' Thinking that the man was dead he started to drag him to an adjacent tank, with the intention^ of throwing him in; but finding the'body too heavy he gave this up, and picking1 up another stick he hit the unconscious man with it repeatedly across the head ,and' all over body to make sure of his work; then he took up his swag and left. Mr Hodgkinson, who went to the camp with rations for the men, found the victim of this dastardly deed arid brought him in to the hotel. Constable James McPherson and Mr G. Eastoh,' J.P., were quickly, on the scene, and the latter took the poor man's dying depositions. The 'constable went'in hot pursuit of the .perpetrator of the deed. lie caught him on Thursday afternoon near Nymagee; and brought him back to Gilgunnia the same afternoon. Dr. Cox attended to the sufferer, and found that he .had in. addition to several scalp wounds, a- broken arm,- one handl split .with the axe, a broken leg, and one ankle sprained, besides numerous severe bruises all over the body.'The man is of course in a very precarious condition. -
