THE MISSING SCHOONER MARMION.

THE TUTANEKAI SENT IN SEAECH

Grave fears have been felt for the safety of the schooner Marmion, which left Napier for Tairua in' ballast on March 3rd last, 42 days ago, and has not since been heard' of. Captain Post, of the Tutanekai, received- instructions from the Government at 4 p.m. yesterday to proceed down the East Coast in search of the vessel, and the steamer left at 12 o'clock last night. On the trip down Captain Post intends,to.keep close to the land, and if no,trace of the schooner is found, to proceed.a short distance oxit to sea and work-back to this port, where the Tutanekai should arrive early next week. . .

It is surmised that as nothing has been heard of the schooner from piaces where she would be likely to go ashore, she has been blown out to sea in heavy weather . .

The Marmion is owned by the Kauri Timber Company, and has been under charier to Captain It. Wood, who is in charge of the vessel, for the past two years, during'which time she has been engaged in the trade between Dunedin, Napier, and the timber ports of the Coromandel peninsula. She paid a visit to Auckland last yeai;. She is a topsail schooner of 92 tons, and was 75.3 feet long, 23.1 feet in breadth of beam,.and 9 feet in depth. She •was built1 at Mahurangiin 1874.
