The Bishop dying necessitated ailother election, when I was again elected by the priests to be Bishop, and recommended by the Archbishop and Bishops of New Zealand, and my election ratified by the Pope. At my consecration as Bis Lop in St. Patrick's Cathedral, the good people of the fbiir parishes; but principally of this, parish, gaveme, as the rpsjdt of th^ir efforts, the' ' istim of' ''£■ 214:,' and. during my episco-t pal visitations throughoiit the diocese numerous sums have teen -gi-ven. to roe. At ilia §ynt»d lately hild'Kere I represented to my priests the necessity of my going Home to procure priests for. the diocese, and to lay before His Holiness the Pope me state of my diocese. I also wished., to secure a succession of. priests from Home for the increasing work of the diocese. This, of course, meant a large outlay of. money, and the priests, after consultation, determined to. make an appeal in their various parishes throughout the diocese. It was then thought that the sum of £300 would be raised. The result has more than realised this, -for no less a sum than £610 has, been' placed to my credit by the Treasurer. I do not know how to thank my people" for their great generosity. All I can offer them is my heart-felt prayers and gratitude ,and on my arrival in Some I will offer up' the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass for the spiritual and ■ temporal well-being of- my people.' At the conclusion of the service, the whole congregation knelt j*down, and received the Bishop's .blessing.
