GRAIN FREIGHTS.
WELLINGTON, March 22. With respect to grain freights the New Zealand Shipping Company has communicated 'the following to the Press Association:—'No such rates as 35s for wheat and 37s 6d for oats have been quoted by direct liners. The New Zealand Shipping Company ha'a not carried sack wheat by steamer at over 30s. Liners have arranged to carry at that rate, and sailers at 27s 6d for April and May loading. To the New • Zealand Shipping Company is due the credit of having secured sailr ing ship tonnage at 27 6d.
Wilby, the engineer who lowered the < f cage when the accident occurred in the Globe Mine, Reefton, on February 14, causing the death of John Mason, has been arrested and charged with manslaughter. .
