ADDRESS BY MR T. E. TAYLOR

NEW PLYMOUTH, this day,
Mr T. E. Taylor addressed a packed meeting .at the Theatre Royal last night. The following resolution was unanimously carried:—'This meeting affirms the absolute necessity, in the interests of the people, of the following reforms, and requests the member for. New Plymouth to bring them under the notice of the Government without delay:—(l) The right of the people to a vote upon colonial, option as well as local option; (2) the decision of the liquor reform question upon a majority vote; (3) the inclusion of all forms of license under the popular vote; (4) the necessity of the appointment of competent and honourable returning officers in order to ensure a clear count of votes; (5) the right orf the parties represented at the local option poll to appoint scrutineers to watch their interests; (6) the setting part, of a day upon which the poll shall be taken triennially, irrespective of whether a Parliamentary election takes place or not; (7) the desirability of introducing legislation to provide that a second offence for sly grog-selling shall .receive the punishment of imprisonment without the option of a fine.'
