WELLINGTON NOTES.

WELLINGTON, this day
Mr .Hog-ben, the recently appointed Inspector of Schools in succession to the late Mr Habens, arrived in Wellington yesterday, and had a. long consultation with Mr W. L. Walker, the Minister for Education. Mr Hogben commences his duties to-day. The tender of Messrs Robertson Bros., of Nelson, has been accepted by,the Public Works Department for the erection of new offices for the cable station at Whakapuaka. The cost will be something1 under two thousand pounds. Mr D. I). Hyde, Government poultry expert, has gone on a visit to the West Coast, Nelson, and Marlborough. The delegates at the conference of the Churches of Christ have resolved 'That the new century shall be inaugurated by a general conference of the northern, middle, and southern districts at Dunedin in the Christmas season.'
