T. Dunlop, a carter, of Hape Creek, was thrown from a horse yesterday and received severe Injuries. The body of Mr James McLean, drowned at Piako whilst out duck-shooting on Sunday, was found yesterday by Messrs Thorburn and Dennerley. It was in the centre of the Piako River, 100 yards lower down than where the accident occurred. The body was brought to the Thames in a steam launch and placed in the morgue, arriving at 9.30 p.m. An inquest was proceeding this afternoon. The financial year of the railway department closed on Friday. The department is confident the receipts will exceed estimates by ninety to onehundred thousand pounds. The estimate of receipts was £ 1,370,000, and the estimated expenditure, £916,000, ■will be slightly exceeded. The Rakaia claims will be included in the financial year 1900. Note this! Geo.
