THE SAN FRANCISCO MAIL.
W 7ith reference to the reqiiest of the Wellington Chamber of Commerce that a fortnightly mail service be arranged between New' Zealand and San Francisco, with Auckland and Wellington as alternate ports, and that the steamers should call at Fiji instead of Samoa, the Secretary of the Post and Telegraph Department has replied that the letter will be considered by the Postmaster-General. He points out that the journey would be lengthened by about twenty hours if a detour were made to take in Fiji, a delay which he does not think would be at all desirable.
