The Auckland Racing Club opened their Autumn Meeting to-day under the most favourable weather conditions. There reigned genial sunshine, tempered by a north-easterly breeze, which made the day an ideal one for racing. A good number of visitors were present from Hawke's Bay and the West Coast of the North Island. by recent rains, the lawn and surrounding!, looked splendid, and the attendance was good oh all parts, of the course. Impey's band was stationed in its usual place on "iter lawn, and the totalizator arrangements were in the efficient hands of Mr H. H. Hayr and a large staff. In the Stewards' room and public room Mr Thos. Mcßwin served up capital luncheons. His Excellency the Governor and suite arrived before the second race, and wene received at the entrance to ithe lawn by the President of the Club (the Hon. E. Mitchelson). Tbe Colonial Secretary (Hon. Jas. Carroll) was also present. TRADESMEN'S HANDICAP, of 100 sovereigns. One mile and a fur- ■ long. Tauhei (J. Ga11agher)............ 1.
