PAEROA NEWS.

(From Our Own Correspondent.)

PAEROA, Saturday.

At the Wesleyan Church on Wednesday night, Mr Jas Reid was presented with a beautiful dinner set comprising 60 pieces from the church, and six glasses, with name insicribed from his class in the Sunday school, in view of Ms recent marriage. The Rev. J. W. Burton, Wesleyan minister, who is leaving Paeroa to take charge of Malvern Circuit in the South Island, was also presented with a purse of sovereigns. On Thursday evening, in the Criterion Theatre, a farewell' social to the Rev. W. Bertram, Presbyterian minister, who is also leaving this district, was held, and an enjoyable evening was spent. Mr W. Forrest, on behalf of the Presbyterian body, in a few appropriate words presented Mr Bertram with a beautiful gold Albert, and wished him all sorts of prosperity. The rev. gentleman suitably replied.

There is at present a great amount of infant sickness in Paeroa, and during the past week no less than four delths have occurred. The prevailing illnesses are measles, whooping cough, and scarlatina.
