A FATAL BOLT.
A runaway, attended with a fatal result, occurred at Kandwick, Sydney, about a week ago. Mr Stephen Eddy, a resident of George-street, Marrickville, was out driving with his wife in a phaeton when the horse took fright at a passing tram. The animal had been regarded ns a very quiet one, and when it bolted the occupants of the phaeton were completely taken by surprise. Down the street it went, at a terrific rate, and presently one of the wheels of the phaeton struck against a post. Mrs Eddy was precir pitated on to the roadway, falling heavily on her head. On seeing what had happened, her husband, who had with difficulty ' retained his seat, jumped out, of the vehicle falling violently to the ground. The injuries he sustained were so severe as to necessitate his immediate removal to the Sydney Hospital. He was examined by Dr. Willis, and found to have sustained fractures of four ribs. He was, besides, suffering greatly from shock. He died next day. Mrs Eddy was badly cut about the head, but, there did. not seem to be any occasion to receive her into the hospital, and she was taken home. Mr Eddy was 60 years of age.
