CHRISTIAN ENDEAVOUR RALLY.
The half-yearly rally of the C.E. Union was held last evening in the Beresford-st. Congregational Church, and was well attended. The Rev. Scott West presided, and made a few opeuing remarks. Addresses were also delivered by the Rev; Hugh Kelly and Mr Lapham, missionary from Ceylon. The Rev. A. H. Collins, President of the C.E. Union, presided at the Communion service held at the close of the first meeting.
Good Friday was duly observed in all of the Roman Catholic churches. At St. Patrick's the mass'of the priests pre-sanctified was celebrated by the Very Rev, Dean O'Reilly, assisted by Father Buckley, deacon, Father Kamp, sub-deacon, and the Rev. Father McKillop, S.J. The crucifix wa^ unveiled, and a large congregation approached the rails to kiss the wounds.' In the evening the office of the Tenebrae was given. The officiating priests were the Very Rev. Father O'Reilly, the Rev. Father Kehoe (Parnell), Fathers McKillop, Buckley and Kamp. The Passion sermon was preached by Father Kehoe to a large congregation. A collection was taken \ip for the preservation and beautifying of the 'holy places' in Palestine.
At most of the Wesleyan churches special services were held. At Grafton Road the Rev. H. R. Dewsbury conducted morning service. In the evening the church, choir,, assisted-hy friends, rendered Stainer's 'Crucifixion.' The solos were taken by the Rev. A. Mitchell and Messrs Ferriday and Johnstone. There was a large attendance, the church being filled. At the Pitt-street church morning service was conducted by the Rev. Williams, who took as his text St. John xii. 32.
