Friends of Captain Alhnan, late nautical adviser to the Marine Department, are bringing influence to bear on the Government with a view to his being appointed one of the marine superintendents who are to be appointed at a salary of £250 each at the four principal ports of the colony. Experienced ship captains here says the salary offered is too small to induce first-class men to accept the positions.
