BOATING FATALITY.

A SETTLER AND HIS DAUGHTER

A boat accident at Takatu Point, Matakana, yesterday resulted in the drowning of Mr Jones, n settler in the neighbourhood, and his daughter. It appears that Mr Jones, his daughter and a young man, and a Mr Day wer.t outside the river bar in an open boat to a point of land, and while returning across the bar the boat capsized. Mr Day and the son managed to reach the shore, but the other two were drowned. Mr Jones' body was recovered this morning, but no trace of the daughter's' has yet been seen.

This morning the dead, body of a man named John Derwent was found in rhe Matakana Creek. The particulars of the fatality are not yet known.
