LEGAL. PROCEEDINGS: PROPOSED,
Yesterday afternoon a meeting of creditors in the bankrupt estate of Win. H. Hoskins, boot manufacturer, who has left Auckland, was held at the office o£ the Official Assignee in Bankruptcy. Mr J. Lawson (Assignee) presided, and the creditors <present were Messrs R. Walton, H. Dearsley (for Auckland Co-operative Boot Co. and for Auckland Boot Manufacturers' Association), J. W. Dimffiock, C. C. Fleming, Jamieson (for Northern Estate and Agency Co.), W. Hodge (Colebrook and Co.), J. Miller (f9r N.Z. Express Company); Ast,ey (E. Astley and Son), G. Pirritt, Chasi Smith (wages), Hodgson (for Northern Boot Co.), H. W. Cunningham, Suttie, and J. W. Knight; These creditors represented £805. The Assignee, said the total amount of claims on the estate was about £1390. A considerable amount of discussion took place on th,e affairs of the bankrupt, and on certain bills which, h& had put in circulation.
The, question of laying a criminal information against Hoskins and having a warrant issued for his arrest was discussed.
Mr Walton moved and Mr Jamieson seconded, 'That the creditors guarantee the sum of £80 out of the assets of the estate as a fund towards bringing Ho* kins back to Auckland.' It was explained that the police required a guarantee.
Mr Fleming opposed the proposition, as he considered it would be wast,e of money, and it was very, doubtful if they could get Hoskins back from wherever he had gone.
Mr Miller said it was the duty of the creditors in the interests of trade to try and get Hoskins back.
After "some further discussion Mr Fleming withdrew his objection, and Mr Walton's motion was carried unanimously.
