THE AUSTRALIAN ELEVEN. MATCH AGAINST REST OF AUSTRALIA. AN EASY WIN. SYDNEY, March S. The first of a series of three matches, which are to be played between the Australian Eleven picked to visit England and a team representing the Rest of Australia was continued and concluded today, resulting in a win for the Australian Eleven by seven wickets and three runs. Requiring 210 to win, the eleven commenced their second innings, and at 20 minutes to 4 p.m. had obtained the required number with the loss of three wickets. Iredale and Darling- were the first to set about the task, Giffen and McKibbin bowling-. Iredale .vent a lightning one, intended for the boundary, but Layer with his long reach intercepted it with his left hand at point, and effected the most brilliant catch of the match, the first wicket falling- for yj.

Hill followed, and the South Australian partnership proved to be a solid one, the score mounting steadily. Various changes in the bowling were ineffective, and the century appeared as the result of an hour uud a Quarter's batting. Both batsmen got into the half-century almost together. After lunch Graham was tried ut the bowling-, but 23 were hit off him in doublequick time. Darling: also smote McKibbin heavily, making three boundary hits off three successive balls. This brought his century up. Hill had no chance against the soft stuff, which Darling monopolised. Eight bowlers tried to effect a dissolution. With his score at 104. Johns missed Darling off Layer, but the, bowler had his revenge next ball. Pye making a great catch on the boundary. Gregory filled the vacancy, and had just reached double ligures when Johns caught him behind the wickets. Woi-rall was the next batsman, and Hill brought his century up.
