ACCLIMATISATION SOCIETY
The annual meeting of the Auckland Acclimatisation Society was held this afternoon at the Museum Building, Princes-street. Mr J. Burtt presided, and there was a good attendance of members.
New Rules.—Hevised rules, drawn up for the Society, were submitted to the meeting, and each clause was taken seriatim and approved. On the motion of Mr Seymour Thorne George it was agreed that the rules be the rules of the Society and that they come into operation from date.
Report and Balance-sheet.—The Council submitted to members their 31st annual report on the financial and general condition of the Society. The total revenue for the year, excluding bank balances, had been £596 9/2, against £445 14/4 for the. previous year, showing an increase of £ 150 14/10. The game licenses had yielded £401, against £30.5 in .1898. For fishing licenses of all kinds, poundage fees, and sale of trout fry and ova, £IGS 3/5, had been received. Tin's alk> showed a marked advance, the total sum for the previous year being £131 7/1. The total expenditure had been £52G .5/3, as against. £3GO in 1897-98. The balance to the credit of the Society, including a standing deposit in the Auckland Savings Bank, was £301 4/4. The Council congratulated the Society on the improved financial position of the Society. The increase in the receipts for'fishing licenses was expected, but it was not anticipated, that the game licenses would show such a satisfactory improvement. The season's operations at the hatchery had been more than usually successful. The Curator reported that over 375,000 ova, were taken. Of this number 70,000 .were sold to other societies, the remainder being placed in the hatching boxes. Anglers had reported good.fishing in most of the tributaries of the Upper Thames. The Pokaruhenua, and soh\e other tributaries of the Upper Waikato had been fished this year for the first time; also several nice streams near Morrinsville. The sum of £140 5/10 has been spent to prevent poaching. JN Teg-otiations had been opened with the Wellington Society with a view to participating in the benefits of the Game Farm established by the Government in Wellington. It had been decided to make an attempt with the Auckland Agricultural Association and Wellington Society to introduce bats arid toads to Auckland. —The report and balance-sheet were adopted without discusioji. Election of officers.—Mr J. Burtt was again re-elected President, amidst applause. Mr Bull was elected VicePresident. Members of the Council: Alessrs Whitney, Wigmore, Gillies, Parry, D'Arcv, Harvey, Owen, White, Masefield, Bloomfield, Dexter. Mr Harrop was re-elected auditor.
