A BOOT MANUFACTURERS' ASSOCIATION.

As the boot trade has for some time been in an unsettled state, through keen competition and rivalry of one firm against another, it was thought that if an association could be formed banded together for mutual help and protection, underselling might be checked. The need of being associated together for the purpose of being properly represented at the approaching session of the Arbitration Court has also been an incentive for combining. The association has now been formed aud registered, and consists of all the manufacturers of the district, with the exception of one firm. The association, as framed, hopes, in conjunction with the employees, instead of, as sometimes has been the case in the past, in opposition to one another, to be able to raise the industry to the premier position in the colony, so that all engaged may be able to make a reasonable living, and add to the wealth and aflluence of our city. The executive of the Association hope to be able during the winter months to hold meetings to discuss questions of interest to the employees and employers alike, and will make arrangements to put the same into effect at the earliest opportunity.

The following officers have been elected for the ensuing year:—President, Mr Herbert Dearsley; vice-presi-dent, Mr G. A. Coles; secretary and treasurer, Mr W. H. Hoskings; committee, Messrs J. Trenwith, sen., H. Schofield, E. R. Jones, H. Dymock, R. Walton; delegates to Employers' Association, Messrs S. M. Green and Trenwith.
