BOBADIL WINS THE AUSTRALIAN CUP.

MELBOURNE, March 7.

The V.R.C. Meeting was continued today at Flemington in beautiful midsummer weather. There was a capital attend-

ance. The field for the Australian Cuo was reduced to 10 by the withdrawal of George Frederick and Alemene. Bobadil held his position as favourite firmly to the end, starting at 7 to 4, and the little horse won his race easily, amidst a scene of great enthusiasm. Bobadil, who was excellently suited by. the moderate pace set, covered the last mile and a half in 2m 485., and the last six furlongs in lm 14s. Wait-a-Bit apparently got into difficulties when attempting to make a run after entering the straight the last time round. _:* The following are the details ;of the racing:— THE AUTUMN HURDLE RACE, a handicap sweepstakes of ssovs.each, Ift, with 250sovs added. Gnullo cut out the running, followed by Reka, Bobadil lying back second to last, next to North British. At the back of the course Wild Raven took command, Bobadil likewise improving his position, and even at this stage the favourite appeared to have the field under command. Rounding the turn Wild Raven and Le Var were in the van, but Bobadil swept round on the outside, and immediately assumed a strong lead, maintaining the same to the post, and winning easily by three lengths 'from Lee-Metford, who- made a sood run in the straight, a length and a half in advance of Le Var. Wild Raven was fourth, half a length away; next in order came North Brttlsh, Wait-a-Bit, Hymettus, Longford, with Reka bringing up the rear. Time 4m ss. THE STEEPLECHASE, a handicap sweepstakes of Bsovs each, with SOOsovs added. About two miles and a half. Mr G. Russell's gr g Domino, aged, by Landsborough—Belgravia, 12.5 A. Williams) 1 Mr B. Murphy's b g N.Z., aged, by Laycock—Pearl, .9.9 (P. Kennedy) 2 Mr A. Miller's b m Ouyen, aged, by Boolka—Eira, 11.5 (M. Mooney) .., 3 Other starters: Seallngwax. Hyena, Spieler, Evanston. Betting: 7 to 4 Domino, 4 to 1 N.Z., 5 to 1 Ouyen, 10 to 1 the others. Domino always held a good position, his rider not attempting to take him to the front till five furlongs - from home, after which he was never troubled, winning comfortably.by three lengths from N.Z., Ouven twenty lengths away third. Time 5m 2225. THE JUNIOR HANDICAP, a sweepstakes of ssovs each, lsov ft, with 200sovs added; second horse to receive 40sovs, and the third 20sovs out of the stake. For two year olds.
