MINE MANAGERS' REPORTS.
Hauraki Xo. 2. —The reef is from 13 to 18 inches thick, and going through a splendid class of mineralised, country full of mineral seams and quartz veins. A flinty leader two inches thick was also cut striking, through the reef. A good prospect of coarse gold was got from a quartz vein 1J inches thick, striking from the reef. This augurs well for the reef when it is broken down. From the indications the manager expects to get gold when he does break down. Alpha.—The reef has improved both in size and quality since the hangingwall portion joined the lode. As the better class of ore and good country dirs hillwards- an improvement should take place in the reef when the level is advanced another 30 feet. Bunker's Hill-No. 1 stope has been extended a total distance of 87 feet. During the week work has been proceeding- on a leader going in the footwall, from which ore with strong blotches of gold almost classifying with picked stone has been obtained. The leader is small, but the quartz is well- defined and gives promise of improvement. No. 2 stope has been advanced 28 feet. Here also the leader ■has shown nice gold. From No. 2 stope about 21bs of stone have been picked and the leader is making more compact as the face advances. The contractors have driven the surface level a further distance of 27 feet. The leader is carrying- more silica and heavy mineral. Progress-Castle Rock—No, 4 level: Drive south on No. 1 reef + has been extended a further ten feet through lio-ht shooting sandstone, country, making- total distance in from crosscut 98 feet. The rock is changing for the better in the face of the drive, ana fretting easier for working. The reef is about three feet wide, and the horse of mullock is giving place to good looking quartz.. The two leaders are coming together and will probably junction in a, few feet of driving and, as we shall soon be underneath the first run of gold met with in the upper levels, gold may be got here at any time. The country and the quart/, are most favourable. No. 3 level: Stoping from No. 2 rise has been con r tinxied. The reef is about 15 inches thick, and the quartz looks very well. In No. 1 rise, about 20 feet above No 3 level, we have met with a small leader in the hnngingwall which showed strong dabs of gold when opened out on. This may bring us on to a patch of gold, as the leader looks very 'promising. .'■"., * Hauraki Associated— During the past week the country in the No. 3 level has been very solid, making- it bad for shooting, hence the headway made has been much slower, seven feet having been driven for the week, leaving about another seven feetbeforecutting the footwall lead, from which close on £6500 worth of biillion has been won between the Nos. 1 and 2 levels. The distance between Nos. 2 and 3 levels is 110 feet, A winze has been sunk 43 feet below No. 2 level, carrying good, rich orp the. entire depth, and the country in the face of the No. 3 level is almost identical in formation. It is therefore expected that the lead when cut here will be as rich as in the winze. In the stopes above the No. 2 level very good ore continues to come to hand, and a fair show is still left standing.
