(By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.)
HAMILTON, this day,
After the Waikato Mounted Rifles paraded on Saturday a letter from Lieut. Hindwood, who has just passed his examination, was read tendering his resignation on personal grounds. Messrs x\.. B. Heather and W. Hume were elected lieutenants. TE AWAMUTU, this day. A charge of perjury, brou«jht against Walter Kingi, a Maori, "by Theodore John Meredith, was withdrawn. The charge arose out of the recent sly grog-selling cases, in which Kingi acted as informer. Mr Swarbrick, who appeared for Meredith, asked that the case against Kingi be dismissed, as he had interviewed the police and the Crown Prosecutor; but these officials refused to have anything to do with the prosecution, and Mr Meredith was not in a position to provide the necessary funds. The case was accordingly dismissed.
