KAPANGA RETURN.

A crushing of 17 tons of quartz and 4Slbs of picked stone has been completed by this company for a return of bullion worth £140. WHANGAMATA GOLD CORPORATION, LIMITED. The above is the name given to the. recently constructed Whangama.ta Proprietary Company, Limited, which some time ago purchased the 'Luck-at-Last' property at Wha.ngama.ta, Work is now in full swing, and during the present week the western crosscut to tap the reef at No. 3 level has been completed. The length of this crosscut is 1,400 feet, and it will be the main tramming adit for the delivery of ore from the mine to the mill, and will also serve to drain the mine. The general managers (Messrs Bewick, Moreing and Co.) have given, instructions for the rapid opening-up of the mine at No. 3 level, so that the ground may bo thoroughly blocked out for the stoping of ore. The reef at this level has been found to vary in width up to 7 feet, and its general appearance is very promising. All constructional works on the surface are making excellent prog-ress, and it is expected that the water-race will be finished early in April. This work is one of considerable magnitude, the total length being over 10,000 feet, with three tunnels along the line of the race, aggregating about 1000 feet. The race is a wooden flume, 4 feet wide by 2 feet 6 inches in depth, and its construction lias involved a heavy amount of trestle-work, so as to carry it over numerous gullies which occur on the line of route. Tramways are in course of construction from the mine to the mill, and ore-hoppers are being erected at suitable points. All the batiter/y works are progressing steadily, and it is anticipated that everything will be in readiness for crushing before the cud of next month.
