WRECK OF A STEAMER.

The Glen line steamer Glenavon, which loaded wool at Sydney last season but one, has been totally wrecked in the China Sea. The Glenavon, which is a vessel of 1912 tons, built at Glasgow in 1881, and owned by Messrs McGregor, Low, and Co., fellin with a typhoon on December 30 whi^e on a voyage from Hongkong to Singapore, en route to London. She Was out but 60 miles after leaving Hongkong, and after a fearful experience foundered. The crew and passengers took to the boats, and these latter were picked up by H.M.S. Battler, which put to sea from Hongkong in search of them. The chief officer (Mr Dickson) and two others were swept off the decks and lost prior to the foundering. All the others, numbering 55 persons, were saved.
