CRICKET.

NEW ZEALAND V. TASMANIA.

A. DRAWN GAME

(By Cable. —Press Association.)

HOB ART, February 7.

The cricket match New Zealand v. South Tasmania resulted in a draw. The first innings of the South Tasmanian team closed for 343, and at the close of the play the New Zealandevs had lost three wickets for 103. The weather to-day was lovely, but the light dull. The attendance was most disappointing. On the play being resumed. Eady and McLeod faced Upham and Fisher. At 115 Downes bowled McLeod. Eady partnered Hawson, uud both played vigorous cricket, the former making fine drives. Frequent changes of bowling were ineffectual. At 100 Eady drove ileese hard back to the bowler, who held the ball. The Tasmania v umpire, after appealing to the other, gave it not out, but as the latter decided against the batsman Cobcroft insisted on Eatly's retirement. This was the only contretemps of the match. Eatly's score included four fours, one three, and 10 twos. With the score at 810, Maxwell drove Reese into the hands of Ike Mills. After luncheon Uphain bowled Ward, and Davis joined Hawson, the pair playing an excellent game, without the semblance of a chance. At 276 Hawson played Fisher into Upham's hands in the slips. His Score included six fours and three threes. At 301 Binghani, who ought to have been stumped when he had scored three, was bowled by ITpham. Richardson knocked up the runs iv double quick time, getting nine by two hits off Frankish and seven off Fisher. At 332 Reese captured his wicket. In the next over George Mills made a splendid catch at the edge of the boundary. Davis' score included six fours. The fielding of the New Zealanders was quite a revelation, but their bowling Was not. so good. Frankish was decidedly off colour. On the Tasinaniuns taking the field, Baker and George Mills faced Eady <md Ward. The Aucklander, playing late, fell a victim to the fast bowler without scorings. At 06 Reese was caught between the wickets, and at 83 Lusk played Eady into the slips, and was caught. Baker and Cobcroft played out time. The former gave a soft chance in the slips when he had made 22. He showed, however, that he was quite at home with the fast bowling. The Tasmanians were unable to get the team to play a third day, and the match was consequently drawn. The scores are: — New Zealand, first innings 335 TASMANIA.—First Innings.
