WELLINGTON, January 5.

Amongst the passengers by the Aorangi was Major-General French, Commandant of the New South Wales Forces. He pays his first visit to pur shores and is on his way to Rotorua. He intends spending about a month in New Zealand, during which time he will see as much of tJie colony as possible. Professor Liversidge, of Sydney University, has twice previously been, in the colony, the last time some years ago as secretary of the Conference of the Australasian Association for the Advancement of Science, held in the South. He is here for a 'change of scene and to escape the heat of the Australian summer and is going South. , . ,

Mr Geoffrey Fairfax, one of the proprietors of the Sydney 'Morning Herald,' was also among the Aorangi'a passengers and is on a holiday trip.
