GOLD RETURNS.
The oulput of gold for the past month is very satisfactory, being a marked increase upon the yield for the same period in 1898. As usual in January there are several returns mis-
sing, owingl to some companies running- longer than usual before cleaning up at the holiday time. For this rea- j son no returns are to hand this time | from rln| Waitekauri and Woodstock | mines. In tho vane of the results sent in the yields are not as large as j usual, owing to the mills being closed down pari of the month in consequence of the Christmas and New Year vacation, "out the average value per ton of the ore treated has been maintained. Included in this month's ret urns are also some that came to hand too late for last mail, owing tr> the batteries running right on to a day or two before the holidays commenced. | OHTNEMrm. Company.
