THE NEW LOCOMOTIVES
The new Baldwin engines are working satisfactorily. Six of them will run between Longburn and Patea, the formation and track of this section having been greatly strengthened. This process of strengthening the. line is to be completed to Hawera and New Plymouth. REDUCED SHIPPING FREIGHTS. Satisfaction is expressed in commercial circles here with the announcement by the A T.Z. Shipping Co., Shaw, Savill and Albion Co., and the Tyser Co., of a reduction of freight on hemp for England from 70/ to 60/, and the sixteenth of a penny per pound on wool. NEW YOEK STEAM LINE. Captain Todd, the New Zealand i agent of the Tyser Line, in reply to I requests from some of the clients of the nrm in New Zealand, has issued a circular stating that Messrs R. W. Forbes and Son and Messrs Gulterman, Rosenfeld and Co. are prepared to execute orders and arrange for shipments of goods at lowest current rates of freight. The circular contradicts the report that the New York line is only a •temporary service; advices from the head office 'state that it will be permanent.
